This thesis, titled "The Pragmatics of Discourse in Ibn al-Qayyim's Book Guidance for the Perplexed in Response to the Jews and Christians", aims to uncover the pragmatic dimensions of Ibn al-Qayyim's discourse in this work, which he authored to defend Muslim beliefs and to expose the contradictions and flaws he attributes to the doctrines of the People of the Book. The study adopts a pragmatic approach, beginning with an analysis of the intended meanings behind many of his phrases and expressions. It also traces the patterns of rational, scriptural, and linguistic argumentation he employed in his dialogue with Jews and Christians. Ultimately, the research seeks to reveal the pragmatic implications embedded in his argumentative language, contributing to a deeper understanding of the structure and strategies of his discourse
